Protected areas

The Empordà is located in a privileged area within the Mediterranean: in the same territory you can enjoy many different ecosystems. If you feel like taking a day out, just an hour’s walk away you can visit fantastic places such as the Cap de Creus Natural Park or the Pyrenees, with their emblematic villages and corners.

Closer, you can stroll through the Aiguamolls de l’Alt and Baix Empordà Natural Park, a unique space in Europe for lovers of ornithology.

And if you want to live and see the Mediterranean in all its splendour, next to the campsite you will find the Marine Nature Reserve of the Medes Islands or you can also visit the mountains of Les Gavarres, a gift for the senses and a must-visit for lovers of sports and hiking; Can you imagine the feeling of being able to walk in the Mediterranean and look at the snow-covered Pyrenees?

pine trees (Pinus pinea) and Scots pine (Pinus pinaster); would you be able to differentiate them?

If you don’t know, keep reading and we’ll tell you some little tricks.

However, if there is one species characteristic of Les Gavarres that has impacted and marked the lives of generations of Empordà people, it is, without a doubt, the cork oak (Quercus suber).

Few places like Palafrugell have reached the almost perfect symbiosis between man and trees in order to extract a resource as precious as cork.

In case we are going for a walk along the fantastic coves and beaches of the Coastal Path we can only recommend that you take a pair of glasses and a tube and immerse yourself in the wonderful underwater world you will find.
